I am excited to extend a warm invitation to each of you to join us for the 48th annual SAVS meeting at the picturesque Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, from January 24-27. Our dedicated SAVS committees have tirelessly collaborated over the past several months to curate an exceptional academic program and a vibrant social agenda for this event. For many years, the SAVS annual meeting has held a special place in my professional calendar. The meeting consistently stands out due to the excellence of its academic programs, a myriad of engaging social activities, and the invaluable opportunity it provides for networking with colleagues and friends. The Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale has been a favored venue for SAVS events in the past. It’s unwavering commitment to service, convenient transportation option, reasonable pricing compared to other high-quality resorts, and proximity to fine dining, shopping, and local attractions make it an ideal location for our gathering. Not to mention, the weather during this week is guaranteed to be excellent!

The program kicks off on Wednesday morning with the Mock Oral Examination organized by Recorder Megan Tracci. We are grateful to thirty dedicated SAVS members who have generously volunteered their time to serve as examiners. Following this, Wednesday afternoon will showcase one of our most anticipated educational events- the postgraduate course. Chaired by Dr. Leila Mureebe, the Education Committee has curated over 20 “tips and tricks” procedural videos from our members. The course promises ample time for discussion and audience feedback, providing practical lessons to enhance your practice.

The scientific session commences on Thursday morning. Over two hundred high quality abstracts were submitted for presentation at the annual meeting. From these, the program committee, chaired by Murray Shames, had the daunting task of selecting the best for presentation at the meeting. The exceptional program they developed covers a wide range of topics, maximizing the learning opportunity for all attendees with free clinical papers, case studies, posters, and basic science presentations.

We are honored to announce that the 2024 Jesse E. Thompson Honored Guest Lecturer will be Dr. Charmaine Lok from the University of Toronto School of Medicine. Dr. Lok is internationally recognized for her research in vascular access surgery and served as the chair of the 2019 KDOQI Clinical Practice Guideline Work Group. Her presentation will highlight the current status and KDOQI recommendations for vascular access.

Drs Ben Pearce and Middleton Chang have collaborated with our industry partners to organize the resident/fellow skills competition on Thursday afternoon. The winner of this event will represent the SAVS at the National Top Gun competition in March.

Beyond the academic sessions, the annual meeting offers a variety of activities, including golf, a men’s and women’s pickle ball tournament, a sporting clay outing, and a 3 – 5 mile fun run, and a reception each night of the meeting. Thanks to the efforts of our Local Arrangements Chair, Olamide Alabi, and April Abenilla of PRRI for arranging these activities. On Friday evening, don’t miss the Presidential Banquet- a night of fellowship, dancing, and the presentation of awards, including the coveted award for the best tie and shoes worn to the banquet.

I encourage you to mark your calendars and make plans to be part of this enriching experience. Let us come together to celebrate advancements in our field, forge new connections, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that the SAVS annual meeting never fails to deliver. I look forward to seeing you at the Westin Kierland Resort for an unforgettable SAVS meeting.

Your President,

David Cull
